On 8th January, my beautiful daughter Olive was born and not long after, while still feeling my way through uncharted territory, I made a firm decision not to return to work once my maternity leave officially ended. Some questioned such a hasty decision so early on, but despite feeling uncertain about many things, due to sleep deprivation and raging hormones, this was something I felt very sure of.

The palm leaf adventure

The Medina is a sensual overload, awash with colours, sounds, smells and feral dogs and cats; the enchanting local products blur together with other more generic tat and shopkeepers are swift to engage you should your eye linger too long on their merchandise. A stall full of elegant palm leaf baskets catches my eye and I soon find myself chatting to Said who runs the business on a busy corner opposite a Moroccan tea house.

Returning to Morocco...

I've been spontaneous and extravagant, as per usual, and booked a luxury family holiday to Essouira, Morocco. It will be my fourth visit to this magical country, the last one being 15 years ago, long before the likes of Easyjet started cashing in on city breaks to Marrakesh. So it is with some trepidation that i make this return.
